Taking the last seat in any cabin will usually kick it up to the highest possible fare, and as far as I know, there are few if any pricing engines that can split a multi-person group across all possible booking classes... most (all?) will kick the whole group up to the highest bucket that can hold all of them.
Yes, they were all F-class on the same flight. I'm just not sure how they justify charging the extra $100 per ticket. It's a bit odd as far as I'm concerned. I buy 6 tickets and you charge me less for each of them than if I bought 8...WEIRD.
