IC De La Ville Rome
Were you happy with the hotel?
Yes.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a Deluxe double at the Luxury Weekends rate for 295 EUR + tax; was upgraded to a junior suite for which the rack rate (according to the sign behind the door) was 1386 EUR.
How are the rooms?
The junior suite was reasonably spacious but had no view to speak of since it was at the back of the bldg. I was told at check-in that only 4 suites in the entire hotel have the sought-after city views. Better luck next time?
How is the Exec. lounge?
No lounge
What was good and what was bad?
Good: At check-in I got a hand-written voucher for a free drink on the panoramic roof terrace. Fabulous.
The bed was a delight. So was the RA/Amb gift of some liqueur-filled chocolates. My room had the largest bathroom on the floor and was the only one with a separate bathtub and shower stall (judging by the floor plan on the back of the door).
The amenity was a plate of fruit, a bottle of still water and those chocolates.
Bad: The minibar was only slightly colder than room temperature, so not much use in the Roman summer. There was also a problem with the safe so I asked for help. A guy in a suit spent 15 mins fiddling with it then said it was out of order and he couldn't do anything about it. So I did without a safe.
There was also a lot of hassle getting ice. The check-in agent said I could get ice from the roof-top bar, but the barman there rudely referred me to room service, which then took 30 mins to bring the ice.
Value for money? Would you return?
Not such good value for money, but I will no doubt return anyway. The location is worth a lot.
