With all due respect, the current question is slightly different from the often-asked one. It's common not to have a seat assignment when you get upgraded. But if you don't have a seat assignment after purchasing a coach ticket, and the seat map shows full, you are very definitely on an oversold flight.

You're confirmed on the flight. If everyone shows up, the airline will ask for volunteers. If they don't get enough volunteers, they will involuntarily bump people. (This is rare ... they usually get enough volunteers). If they involuntarily bump anyone, those with no seat assignment are the first to be bumped.
