Unless the visa is attached to a specific PNR (never heard of that) or charging 1000gbp is a problem, this should work.

If you buy the ticket and refund it immediately you'll probably have the charge on your CC for 7-10 days. If you time this away from your statement date you won't have to put up the cash - you just need the spare credit on the card.
