No seat assignment

Just purchased 2 tickets from FLL to ORD on Sept. 3, however, once the tickets were purchased I looked at what seats had been assigned and there was nothing indicated - when I clicked the change button, I discovered all seats were X'ed out - does this mean the flight has been oversold? Should I be prepared to not make that flight? Thanks in advance
