IC Bucharest
Were you happy with the hotel?
Yes.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a standard room using the 2 for 1 promo going on in Europe/Asia/Africa now. When I checked in I was told I had a deluxe room. I asked about RA upgrades and was told the hotel gives suites to RAs. For some reason they had me in the computer as just a PC Plat, so after showing them my RA card I received either a junior suite or an apartment (the check in agent called it a junior suite, the bellhop called it an apartment). It was basically 2 normal rooms connected by double doors. One room was a bedroom and the other a living room. Each room had a bathroom; the bedroom's bathroom had a jacuzzi and the other bathroom had a shower. Room was in the center of the floor and had a large balcony.
How are the rooms?
Very nice. This hotel had a recent change in management (I ran into the GM in the elevator and he was extremely nice and wanted to know how my stay was going). Each of the rooms in our suite/apartment had its own minibar, and I confirmed with the front desk that everything in the minibar was complementary. No bubbly, but a decent selection of beer and soda, plus a very nice selection of snacks. The only strange thing was that I was asked upon checkout what I had consumed from the minibar. The agent confirmed that everything was complementary, but still wanted to know what I had. It was difficult to remember if I had 3 or 4 beers, 2 or 3 little bags of chips, etc. This might also get rather funny if you just cleared out the minibar and then had to admit to it when checking out.
How is the Exec. lounge?
Very nice. I'm not sure if this is included for everyone in the hotel since I was never asked for my room number. The lounge was always rather empty, never more than 4 other guests (and always at least 2 workers). Nice selection of food in the evenings, and a decent breakfast in the morning. Plus free drinks all day long (until 11 pm). The Romanian wines they had were actually rather tasty, including the sparkling stuff. There were also 2 computers with internet access available for free. This was a nice benefit.
What was good and what was bad?
Location was good. I am not too familiar with Bucharest, but this seemed to be a short walk from everything we wanted to see/do. All employees were very nice, although one trainee tried to hard to push hotel services. For example, I asked about calling a taxi to the airport. She said they had a hotel car for only 70 euro (I think that was the rate). Then the assistant manager chimed in and said they would call a cab, it would take 5 minutes max to get to the hotel, and a ride to the airport should be about 60 lei. Another time I asked the same trainee for restaurant recommendations and she really tried to push the hotel's restaurant. I ended up getting recommendations from the employees in the lounge. But that was the only downside to the stay (well, there was also not RA gift).
Value for money? Would you return?
Good value for money, especially considering the Hilton was around 350 euro/night. I paid 189 euro for the first night here, got the second free, and got all the RA benefits. I would certainly return if in Bucharest again.
