When you shout 24 hour check-in on Shabbat is discriminatory, one's simple common sense is to believe that if it's not possible to do 36 hours, the next "best thing" would be to not allow it as I'm sure El Al don't want to be "discriminatory" - especially against a major chink of the passengers.

If one will say that by offering OLCI, LY discriminates all those who do not have a home computer or do not know how to use the Internet (which I believe also referres to the majority of the Orthodox population on Shabbat or not), I would say that he has a better point than you.
