Five letter waypoints (i.e., BITTA) are oceanic fixes and three-letter aids (CKH) are land or island based VOR omni-range beacons. So many flights are routed over the same points to keep them out of other traffic patterns. Also, 250 miles or so from the mainland or Hawaiian Islands, radar coverage is lost, so aircraft are kept on defined tracks with oceanic waypoints for reporting or coordination.
