With the international departures from ORD, they always make numerous all terminal pages. It seems it worked for you as you heard the final boarding call. If you had heard the page and ignored it, because of what the board said earlier, that would have been entirely your fault. Just from my experience at ORD, UA is very good at making numerous final boarding calls for the over water flights, so people who miss those flights probably aren't paying much attention.
