I've tried getting an upgrade LHR-LAS via ORD recently about 6 weeks out - very very poor availability and no offer for the waitlist - but I guess that might have been UK (Ireland) reservations. They say the 6*1K confirmables are mopping up a lot of inventory for the summer.
