Because of the rolling 12 months qualification period for VIP (not calendar year), HHonors have recently amended their T&C so that once one is qualified/activate memberships, the status is valid until April of the 2nd calendar year, so it may indeed be valid until April 2009 -even though it is complimentary. From the HHonors web site:
Members can earn or maintain VIP status based on qualifying stays, nights, or Base points in any rolling 12-month consecutive period. Once a member attains a tier level, it will remain in effect through April of the second calendar year following the period in which the member qualified. Members must requalify for VIP status.
I agree with Shareholder though that this is probably one of th best program at this level
