It is still possible to travel on a paper ticket with ANA, although I believe the goal is for most airlines to be 100% paperless within the next few years.

It used to be that paper tickets were easier for one carrier to endorse to another carrier in cases of flight cancellations or delays. However, as more airlines enter into interline e-ticket agreements with other airlines, this benefit may be slipping away.
