I don't see that it's as bad an analogy as all that. Now if he buys 25 cars a year, he should darn well get something back - more features or a better price -, incrementally, for every car past, say, 2.
And that's the way it works in real UA life, more or less: as a PE I upgraded 1 out of 2 (probably could have done better but was a cheapskate); as a 1K I have only once been denied one (but have refrained from taking some owing to that same cheapness, so I am actually around 75% at this status).
