Premex witnessed when I checked-in at LAX (to JFK, I was connecting coming from SNA) for a 3-class-flight in paid business and wanted to upgrade to first (using a confirmable one-way-N-american upgrade voucher) and got the answer: "if you want to fly first, why don't you pay for it!". And yes ... more than 50% in first were UA employees ... and yes ... this was one of the rare moments a check-in agent did't get to know how swiss chocolates taste ...

It was this experience (as a 1K then) which started me questioning my so far (for a european, and even more for a swiss who was left orphin when UA gave up their direct flight IAD-ZRH in spring 98 exceptional) UA-loyality and in the end made me heading for Senator ... and 'only' UA-Premex now.
