I suppose I was very lucky some years ago when I flew SYD/CHC/SYD on a 743. I found there was no way to transit other than clear C&I and re-enter. I had about 1:30 minutes to do that and get back on the plane.

They did think it was odd until I showed them my flight log book and all was ok.
