As I said...

No "Big Hurricane" other than Iniki. My relatives have lived on Maui since the '20s, Honolulu since the '30s, and Kauai since '51 (5 years before I was born. The only major hurricane in all that time was Iniki. At the time of Iniki I talked with a lot of my relatives while it was heading that way and during the aftermath (including kapuna who were alive at the time) and they said that was the only major hurricane they had seen in all that time. The others were barely Category 1 and caused very little damage. The original poster said a major hurricane hits every 15 years. If you want to call Dot, Fico and Iwa "major" from your armchair, that's your call. People who actually lived there at the time (including me) will disagree. I've been on the Gulf Coast for 25 years now. I'll call Katrina, Rita, and Alicia "major hurricanes". Dot, Fico, Iwa - "major?" - ah, come on...
