Thumbs up

Stayed between August 1st until 11. Booked two rooms as Platinum, one room as award stay for 10 nights and the other room was a 5 paid nights in the first part following by 5 award nights.

They offered me at check-in the Platinum amenity and told me that due to the high occupancy during the peak season, they are unable to give me an upgrade but in the second part of my stay (the last five nights, Monday to Saturday), they will upgrade me to the bay suite. I accepted their offer and became the room 660 and 771, which were both located in the North Wing on the other side of the check-in area.

The rooms were ok, nothing special, but at least equipped with a heavenly bed. Both room have received a big bottle of still water beside the daily tiny complimentary still water (I think it was a 0.2 dl bottle )

The resort itself is great! They have their private beaches as well two big swimming pools. We even went to some other public beaches but still found the resort beaches much more convenient.

We booked some tours through the concierge, which was very helpful and competent. The trip to the blue lagoon as well to the city of Valetta is a must! Don’t miss this one.

As a platinum member I was granted the access to the Royal beach club, which was basically the usual lounge. The best part of it was, that both rooms had access to it! The breakfast was a typical English breakfast with scrambed and boiled eggs, beans, bacon etc. Others like cereals, pastries, joghurts etc. were also available. The cocktail hour in the evening was always great combined with the excellent view you have to the sea from the lounge. The lounge was divided in indoor and outdoor part and also has two computers. Unfortunately due to the peak season you had also a lot of kids in the lounge and they mostly misused the computers as gaming machine and occupied unnecessarily long the computers.

Since my family dislike seafood, I wasn’t able to test the seafood restaurant Quadro. The other two restaurants Terrace (which also be used for guests booked with breakfast or half-board.) and Palio’s (Italian restaurant) were ok, but nothing to write home. I prefered the nearby restaurants where you can find a big varities of kitchen. I liked the nearly Chinese restaurant Pagoda a lot and don’t miss the great Gelateria near Le Meridien (about 500m along the street on the right hand side of the hotel).

Due to the overbooking situation the management has totally offered the guests 3 complimentary trips in different days to Gozo, the neighour island. We have chosen the one on Wednesday to Thursday and were brought to Kempinski Gozo which was a total different hotel. Hotel built in a lodge style was pretty impressive and the swimming pools were gorgeous, but this hotel was definitely not built for kids… We received an Executive Suite as well a Junior Suite, but had a bed which was basically a standard bed from a 3-star hotel. But their restaurants were absolutely world-class!

Returned back to Westin, me and my wife got our suite back which was really great! I especially enjoyed the option to choice my pillow between 10 different kind of models! Equipped with LCD TV in both rooms and a nice kitchen, you didn’t really miss anything! And yes, the Jacuzzi was pretty nice. My mother-in-law and my son have got the room 701, which was a corner room with a hugh balcony (which was nearly the same size as the room!).

Overall the stay was excellent and I have enjoyed it a lot! Westin Dragonara Resort is a must if you have children and you wishes to have a memorial stay during your summer holidays. The staff were very friendly and helpful and I would go back to this hotel anytime.
