That SeatGuru info is oft-repeated, misguided, urban myth. OTOH: unless you are UA 1P you will NOT have access to these seats prior to day of check-in. At which time, most likely, they will have been pre-reserved.

Only 1P and above may pre-reserve exit rows on UA.
