But I did not want any risk at all that we would be in different cabins, and we already had 15G&H. I called United and requested the upgrade for both of us together. The upgrades (SWUs) cleared together two or three days ago for our late December flight.

I didn't see this as a "bird in the hand, two in the bush" situation because I totally expected both of us to clear.

I probably would do the same on the return flight. But after the outbound cleared I saw our return had changed to NF2 so I snapped them up (miles).
