Sorry to bump an old thread, but I can't believe the OP thinks Aussie duty-free shops are expensive compared to regular grog shops!

Sure, our airport DF (SYD for example) might not be the cheapest compared to other airports like SIN, HKG, BKK...but it's definitely a lot cheaper (for a wide variety of grog) than regular shops.

Eg:
1L Absolut range is ~$22-26AUD. 750mL usually goes for around $34 at Dan Murphy's, and up to $40 at most other places.

1L JW Green is ~$65AUD. 750mL is around...$80, 90AUD at Dan Murphy's?

In my experience, many popular bottles (both cheap and expensive) are up to 1/2 the best price you can find in regular shops (when you consider the DF sizes are usually 1L, and the shops usually only sell 750mL).

I do like SIN's pricing though. ~$20AUD for 1L Absolut, and I picked up a 1L bottle of JW Blue for ~$140AUD there last time. Dan Murphy's sell it for $275AUD! (Should have got green though.)
