I recently hit Elite and got my upgrade certs in the mail, followed shortly by an extra pair of certs for hitting 150K.

Lo and behold, I need to book Latitude fares to even use them! Seems to kill the point of the certs when you need to pay double to take advantage of them.

Then I here that United gives out certs with every 10K traveled, usable on any flight.

I do most of my travel to the US, and I already earn at least half my Aeroplan miles on United flights, so I wonder if I should be switching programs and earning on United for next year.

Any thoughts? If it helps I fly from YYC, mostly to the US.
