The system isn't perfect, but it makes bad guys think the process through. Checking ID is just Kabuki security. Just today I traveled by air VIE-HAM and my ID was not checked
at all. Nobody seemed to have any problem with that. I had no bombs, guns, or other weapons. I was not a threat, ID or not. I even collected the boarding passes of other passengers when I collected mine and they traveled with me -- all without showing ID. Shock of shocks!
