I think they just started offering bottled water because so many people were bringing it on board now. I noticed a change in my own behavior. The vendors in Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam started offering non-carbonated bottled water about six months ago, and I started buying two bottles for each puddle jump. Lo and behold, Northwest (my airline) started offering bottled water in November. I appreciate the gesture.
