Most of the nightlife is along central ave. north of downtown (not far from the airport).Friends out there tell me the two most popular are Amsterdam and Kobalt. DO NOT drink and drive in PHX. Cabs or a car service are cheap and numerous. For a great steakhouse try Durants on central. Been there forever.
