Visa Electron was also, I believe, an early effort (maybe fifteen years ago) by Visa to push cardholders into debit card use. It was a big flop and Visa canned the card. I believe the present Electron card is a different program, although it may have many of the same features. I occasionally see a weathered Visa Electron Welcomed Here sticker on the doors of older stores.
