I had a FA announce that the FA's were on board for passenger safety only and the rest (meals, drinks, etc.) were secondary. I was rather surprised at this announcement. On the upside the service was some of the best I have ever had on a United flight. I was in first on an upgrade on a 757 DEN-BOS.
