It's difficult enough to arrange insurance which would cover an 83 year old man let alone an insurance policy which would have actually paid out in this situation.

Not BA bashing, but if the airline was supposed to escort him then they cocked up badly. If no escort was arranged then the passenger cocked it up. Either way it's a shameful incident.
