For female Asian passengers, sunlight is a bad thing on their skin. So, shades down otherwise they might end up with more wrinkles. Scientific evidence also states that UV light is very very strong at high altitudes so exposure within half an hour can get u sun damage. If u are Caucasian, more sun damage at this altitude.
Also, passenger wants to doze off or watch IFE, u can't have sunlight streaming thru for that. Not for me anyway.
As for myself, shades DOWN! It hurts my eyes due to the intense light at that altitude.
