Don't the man's family have to take some blame? I would not send my 87 year old nan on a plane on her own. I know that although she is a bright spark, she may get somewhat confused in a very large airport as people a quarter of her age do 100's of times a day!

I had pax that were very old/ unable to look after themselves dumped on us as crew, because the family would not/ could not pay for another ticket.

In 17 years of flying as crew, I drained a man's leg wound, took inumerable oldies to the toilet, helped them with their medication, cut up food and on occasion fed it to the person while another 200 odd people waited for their meal. None of this was in my job description as crew. The ground staff do not have to look after anyone similarly, unless they are unaccompanied minors, which should be notified pre flight.

If someone is unable to navigate an airport, for whatever reason, they should be accompanied... a bit like my husband.
