That's eaxctly what I did.
There are two different things here. As other posters had pointed out, opt-out (5-yr or permenant), only works with those
pre-approved solicitations. Before I opted out, I got a lot junk mail offers. Whenever I change my residence, I will call the 800 optout #. Now my mailbox is much less crowded.
As for those aggressive "junks" from Chase (or any particular bank you have a relationship with), including balance transfer checks, pre-approved cards..etc, just call the customer service numbers on the back of you cards. I got so tired of those BT checks when I had 4 Chase MP cards last summer. I called up and requested them not to send me those marketing stuff no more. It's been a year and I probably save at least one tree so far. Remember to request it for each of your Chase accounts.
The online bank message will do too, I suppose. I rather speak to a real person and hold the name for hostage.
