Well, if it makes you feel better, my platinum status will come from actually flying as I have been ineligible for almost all promotions on FT . Last year I was 8k miles away from platinum because I had miscalculated my India flight and only got half credit because I booked the wrong fare on CO. I actually flew closer to 100k miles, although, unfortunately, 20k of those miles were on United. This year I've already flown 34 segments on US Airways (only direct flight from DCA-TPA) yet have still managed to fly 38k on DL. Have a NRT trip in 3 weeks and now a HNL trip in first. That with a few more flights at the end of the year pushes me to platinum. And again, I'll have flown over 100k miles and still barely make my DL status
