iTunes question - newbie user

Yesterday, I purchased a used iPod from a co-worker. I got the postage-stamp sized 1GB Shuffle for $20. As I recently lost my beautiful mp3 player, I figured this would be a sufficient substitute until I could afford a fancy one again.

Anyway, this is my first foray into using iTunes. I have downloaded the software and it identified my mp3 files on the hard drive.

Two questions....

1. I like some of the music already loaded on to the iPod. Is there any way to import that into my own iTunes library? I just can't seem to figure it out.

2. All of my files are traditional mp3. Can I put them on to the iPod?
