I think that as long as the aircraft isn't blocking a taxiway, they can do that. The "alley" between B and C is safe, as are the west side gates on C for the most part. Some of the gates at the ends of B and C can block taxiways on pushback.

This is what happened in my case. Is the "alley" not part of the "taxiway"? Sorry if I used the wrong term...
