Asiana have definitely duitched the 747's on this route and now use nice new 777's with much nicer seating.

Also, note that (i) Japan Airlines is now in Oneworld, giving you tier points; and (ii) Flying via Japan is faster than flying via HKG (you're adding 5+ hours flight time!).
