buy a few Euros (100 or so) before you go but mostly use credit cards while there (by far the best exchange rate, but check with the bank that issued it about any extra fees) and hit the ATMs only if you need to for additional cash while you're there. At least with Euros, any leftovers are useful in a lot of places in the future.
