The reason it piqued my interest was how long the threshold was (since I had only seen one in SAN before). We landed about 530P so there were no runway/taxiway lights on. It does look like the CRJ could technically do a U turn without entering the runway at the very end of the taxiway. I was sitting in the aisle see so I couldn't see the markings where we landed though I did clearly see the centerline striping on 30R. (Hard to see from a pax perspective if you are on that runway landing)
Even if it was Visual Flight Rules (only smoke in the sky but higher than us), wouldn't alarms be going off if the plane was not in alignment with the runway, or would that be applicable to larger airports?
