Orlowski is close to many of the guys who worked on the Hildon project (whose importance is, naturally, rather overstated in his article - and in the Psion article he wrote previously, too). The historical and technical stuff he writes about should be taken with a VERY large pinch of salt. (Not that my memory is perfect )

All that said, there's no doubt that there has been a huge trade-off involved in walking away from S80 in terms of the applications and menu structure. Then again, I seem to remember plenty of grumbling about the original 9210. Some people love the E90, others miss what's gone.
