Absolutely. I have done so a few times without complications. I have also changed reservation dates and even trains after reserving an award. DO NOT get the actual ticket until you are ready to travel (preferably the same day at a staffed station). The AGR people I have spoken with have been extremely helpful, friendly, and accomodating, without exception.

I would have to agree with DragonLoaf. I have made, chenged, cancelled and remade reservations all in the same day and the AGR reps I have spoken to have been extremely helpful and courteous. If you cancel the award for travel, it takes about a 24 hour turn around for points to reappear in your AGR account.
