Are you saying there is a $50 fee for standby? I thought that was only for same day confirmed.

I asked:
only mention Delta Medallion gold and above can fly standby at all (but it is free for them) - what about Skyteam Gold and above (in my case, Northwest Worldperks)?
In other words,
Can a NW / other skyteam gold or plat standby on a delta flight - yes or no? If so, is it free for them or is there a cost for this? Can their companion also standby?

Not having tried this before, I don't know the answer to this question.

Also, if standby is not officially allowed, does your actual experience indicate this is often allowed anyway if you get to your connecting city early enough that there is an earlier option to the flight you are booked on(assuming this earlier flight has a decent number of open seats) ?

I believe Delta's standby is never confirmed until the flight starts boarding and thus is completely different from same day confirmed. The latter, as of this month, costs $50 per passenger.
