If I am able to hold it on .bomb, can I go to the airport directly or do i still need to call reservations first?

Agreed. I tried this at the RCC and the CSR made me phone my reservations in first to get a PNR. Then she ticketed me. No fee. If the fare is eligible for "hold" you can probably do this on .bomb as well. (Hold and get the PNR)
