NW just posted a $2 billion profit. If they can buy YX for a fraction of that and YX can turn even a modest profit while keeping out LCC from MKE, then it could be money well spent.
It's insane to root for NW to buy YX. They wouldn't run it; they'd effectively shut it down.
If you really want to fly NW, you could still do so after AirTran buys YX. And, with the new low fare competition, you'd be able to buy those NW tickets for less.
