If the former, and if you have at least Amex-branded card, consider enrolling that card in Amex's Premium Car Rental Protection program for this rental only, and then dis-enroll at the completion of the rental. Here's the link to the Amex program:

I do own a car...and I had a minor accident with a rental car about a year ago so I'm trying to limit/eliminate my need to involve my insurance company if possible (depending on what, if anything happens).

The only credit cards I have now are a regular Visa through my credit union and a Platinum MC that has rental car coverage, but it is secondary.

I'm kinda stuck with this trip insurance this rental because I pick it up tomorrow, but I am a 5-star Gold member that rents between 15 and 20 times a year, so I am open to other suggestions of cards or whatnot that will help keep me from using my regular insurance company. At least until the accident disappears. :-)

Thanks everyone! :-)
