This confusion is quite unsettling and somewhat new! I was told by an SQ agent in Jakarta today that my baggage limit for flights departing to and arriving from the US is 23 kg (2 pieces). According to her, this policy has been changed for "quite a long time". This must be incorrect, because I flew with SQ from FRA to SIN in June and checked in my luggage which weighed 30 kg each!

I need someone to clear this up as I'm worried I won't be able to travel with the same baggage limit as that of SQ on my domestic United flight (baggage restriction for united is 23 kg) two weeks after. Please note that I bought everything under one ticket, so I expect the "piece concept (of presumably 34 kg)" to apply even if my departure dates for both the SQ and United flights are two weeks apart!
