The original SYD-London route (Imperial Airways 1930's) went through Sharjah, Basra, Baghdad etc... this would most likely have been "inherited" by Qantas Empire Airways (which QANTAS became in 1934...)

The "Africa" route CPT-London DID go through Khartoum....

I suspect the artist just screwed up....
