Not sure about Africa but QF did have a route to the UK via Mexico called the Fiesta Route - Sydney via Nadi, Papeete, Acapulco, Mexico City, Nassau, Bermuda, London and return. This was done with 707 equipment - the same sort that JT currently has.

I don't know if they had a "Safari Route".
