I burned out 5 of these in less than a year before switching to Targus which has worked flawlessly since. In each case the unit was replaced under warranty, so it was no surprise to Kensington that they burn out. It took about two weeks, but I only used the units for travel, so I had my original from the PC manufacturer to use while waiting. They didn't even ask for the old one back. I just cleaned out my office and finally dumped them in the trash.

Maybe the new design will work better. Buying an extra as a backup could be a VERY short term solution.

If the Targus ever burns out, I might look at the new Kensington if it is any good.
