Here's the thing, though: The LX flight time on SIN-BKK is not very convenient, either for business or pleasure, if you're going for a weekend you don't arrive into BKK until after 11pm. So SQ is an excellent alternative! Plus, ex-SIN you can BTC as well.... ex-BKK the only special meal in F you can order on SQ is the Japanese Kaiseki meal, which is nice. I've done that several times.
So, maybe and SQ flight ex-SIN on the way up to BKK, then LX back?
I just did BKK-SIN again in SQ F, and ordered the Kaiseki meal. It's much more substantial than the regular F meal, though (again) the SQ staff in SIN didn't believe me that you could order this meal ex-BKK! They figured it out, though. The meal is offered in courses, and this time had a nice first plate of cold dishes, and then a good variety of hot dishes, soup, and eel, along with rice, pickles, etc. Finished off with a small Japanese dessert and the ubiquitous fruit!
Since I was the only one in F on this 773 on a Tuesday afternoon, it was quite nice service. She also offered me anything I wanted off the regular menu, since they'd been catered with all the stuff. It was a nice flight, but still if choosing between similarly-timed flights, I'd go with LX. (It was an award ticket, and LX wasn't available, so I went with SQ, but it was a good experience).
FYI: At least this month, the 744 is nowhere to be seen on the SIN-BKK vv. schedule, barring an odd aircraft sub.
