That being said, though, I agree that AA buying AS would be a bad move (for the same reasons that have already been mentioned), and this is even coming from someone who has had status on AA for the last several years.

Having been involved in several company mergers outside of the airline industry, all I can say is the success or failure of a merger has as much to do with how compatible the cultures and management approaches are, as it does with how much logical business sense the merger makes. I'm not so sure (and others may have more insight) if AA and AS have cultural compatability. I'd think CO and AS were a better fit, or Delta and AS, that way.
