In my experience, airlines are extremely reluctant to match a top-tier status - unless perhaps you are attached to a large corporate travel department which could negotiate a match for all of their top-tier ffs. (kinda funny - a different type of "collective bargaining" in response to the collective bargaining which may result in a strike). One other thing: for a union to strike an airline as large as AA, neither side can afford for the strike to go on for very long. Most likely, a strike would not last long enough for it to be worth other carriers' whiles to do status matches. Ymmv.
