After calling the hotel, it seems that since I left before 4:00am, they didn't charge me for that night. But what was weird was that the receipt I had showed me being charged for both nights, not just one of them.
It definitely isn't worth arguing over. One night credit plus about 1500 points or saving $120 plus? I figure I'll for go the points this time.
But overall, I have had pretty good luck with my points and nights all posting correctly (at hotels in the US and elsewhere.)
I had a similar experience happen to me. I was stranded at the airport upon arrival, since Hertz was closed. I had a guaranteed late arrival at the hotel 40 miles away, but didn't make it there until 6AM. Although the receipt showed 2 nights stay, I ended up only getting credit for 1 night. (I was charged for both nights, though.) The check-in after midnight may have played havok with the number of nights posted, although this hasn't been the case in other situations where I arrive after midnight. A quick fax of my receipt to MR straightened it out, and the extra night's stay posted a few days later.
